Story

Hello, my name is Mark Schattenberg. I am 25 years old, and from Austin, Texas. As a recent graduate from Texas State University with a BS in Recreational Administration, I am an outdoor enthusiast. My greatest passion is paddling, and every week I spend between 15 and 20 hours training and preparing for canoe and kayak competitions.

Recently, I participated in the 2018 Canoe Marathon National Championships in Newport Beach, California. This event also served as the 2018 National Trial Selections. At nationals, I placed first in my division, and was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in the 2018 Canoe Marathon World Championships as a member of Team USA. The world competition will be held in Prado, Portugal in September. I anticipate costs being $3000 for airfare, lodging, boat rental and the participation fee.
